We are on school holiday at the moment. Nearly two weeks down and one more to go!
Autism + Nick ~ this must be the first school holiday that I have felt totally relaxed about hanging out with my boy for three weeks with only the occasional break for myself. I made a conscious decision to slow right down. No therapy appointments for my boy. No big plans to do this and do that. Just days in which we meander along, popping out to do the odd errand AND stop off somewhere for a cappuccino for me (and the occasional milkshake for him). We are also catching up with old and new friends!
Yesterday brought forth some lovely memories of my home country. A friend and her family are traveling throughout New Zealand; and I am following their journey with great interest and reminiscing about familiar places. The picture below is of my home in the Marlborough Sounds. We lived there for many years and I couldn't have asked for a better childhood. Mind you, my poor mother got a bit tired of having four girls and homeschooling! :-)
I was really thrilled to catch up with a very old friend who played a big part in our lives for eight years. Julia started working with Nick when he was two and she helped us out until she needed to give up her private tutoring business to look after her elderly parents. I am so thankful for all the people past and present who help us travel the road with Nick.

Love that last photo in particular. I think it helps to ease up on ourselves and our children sometimes and hope the holiday continues to go well. Have always wanted to visit New Zealand and it looks so lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi kateonthinice ~ I also love that last photo, Julia means a lot to us. It does help to ease up and I feel confident that the remainder of the holiday will be great. New Zealand is amazing, just wish it was so far away from where I live now! Thank you for your comment.

DeleteHow lovely! And I love that you are just chilling this summer break, it is so good to take timeout from appointments etc. Mind you, I did have a giggle - you're 2 weeks down with 1 to go and we're a month and a half down with that again to go!! xx
ReplyDeleteHiya, Jazzy. Your summer holidays are crazy long! We are on our winter break and our 'long' holiday is over the December/January period. It is so lovely to take life slow, that's for sure. Enjoy your hols. xx
DeleteThat's such a beautiful place that you grew up in, good that you can maintain links with it. And best of luck with the rest of the holidays and hope you do get some breaks xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Blue Sky. Nick is now asking for "school" so I think he is ready to go back! The past three weeks have been very chilled, which has been great.
