Celebrating sounds

The following board was created on Proloquo2go. Each box represents a sound or a word. For example, the word kah represents the sound 'K". Nick is really big on sounding out the letters in each word, therefore he is still tending to sound out "k...a...h" instead of listening to the sound and then repeated "kah". It is all a work in progress.

I am sharing the following (very short) video just for fun. I am so delighted that Nick is making sounds and as time goes on, each sound and/or word is becoming more meaningful to him. He is beginning to connect the dots!

  2. Oh that is wonderful and he is really enjoying it....I'd still love to get my special girl talking so that I can understand - forgive me but I can't remember if he was trying to talk before and you couldn't understand? And was there a light bulb moment on the sounds? I've been trying for 16 years with repeating her sounds, turn taking, labelling, pre-speech exercises eg blowing, but still nothing, but I know she wants to talk! It may be that floppy vocal chords mean that she will never have distinct speech, but I haven't given up!

    1. Hi Blue Sky, No, Nick has never talked before and we really didn't think that he would!! Does Smiley use a communication device? All we can ever do is try and as you say, never give up! Thanks for stopping by. xx

    1. Thank you, zisforzen. It really was good fun... although to be honest, Nick does get a bit heightened by voice output, which also encourages the laughs!! :-)
